Me and my velo

5:00 pm Sunday evening:
Today I shall go out on my bike and see what the world has to offer...something sweet I hope.
11:00 pm
6 hours later I return having bought a tragically adorable new charm bracelet made of oversized brass hearts from jewelry/tattoo shop New York Adorned in Brooklyn. They have a perfect mix of sweet and sick that translates into a brilliant jewelry collection of a hard to find quality. I have a strong appreciation for the designers work.
I also grabbed the March edition of W magazine and thumbed through as I awaited some friends at French Roast, a 24 hour French cafe in downtown Manhattan. Soon after a designer, a model, a journalist, and a freelance producer indulged in great food, wine, and stimulating conversation. Three hours later I was on my bike with Grace Jones singing her version of La Vie en Rose as I headed home full of sweet desserts, coffee, and satisfaction in my day's adventure.

Viva la Romantic

Is it just me or is the idea of romance as I thought I knew it almost completely dead? I am starting to feel like the whole world is living in this new era of defined companionship and I am just not a part. This morning I indulged myself in Notorious, an old Alfred Hitchcock film starring Cary Grant. Its all part of Turner Classic Movies (TCM) 31 days of Oscar, a tribute to Oscar nominated films and also known as some the best 31 days of my life. For the past month I have watched movies from almost every era so its has been easy to observe the interaction between men and women and the transformation over the decades. While women have since grown stronger, more independent, and waistlines larger than an eighteen inch circumference, the idea of romance still lingers. For some like myself, it lingers very heavily in the weight of daily life. It governs my attire, my mannerisms, my view of the world. and dare I say, my expectations of those in it. Often disappointed by the watered down and lack-luster approach that has come to replace traditional romance, some may say that I am simply living with my head in the clouds. Be that as it may, there are several of us out there, all floating above realism in search of fairy tale romanticism. This is a collection is for us. May there be one less disappointment but rather a meeting in the clouds for us share fantastically wonderful romantic expressions. Underground Love Story coming Fall 2008...Viva la Romantic!

RTW... where??????

The fashion shows are in full swing as London fashion week comes to an end. New York holding the reputation as being home to sell-ability and classic American style and first on the fashion week roster had RTW collections that left me asking the question, "ready-to-wear" where? Both British and American designers such as Gareth Pugh, Steark, Dennis Basso, and Monique Lhuillier are among others showing peices that seem unwearable for even the most fashionable of the population. With the economy in its current state it is unimaginable that the fashion industry will be immune to its effects. This is a time when I would expect fashion the evoke emotion, self expression, and versatility. Everyone is looking for that "special piece" that makes them feel a certain way and can be cherished throughout the season. Buyers come from cities all over the world to crowd the front rows of the fashion capital's biggest shows, yet I wonder how much of what is shown can actually be purchased in good faith that it will sell. Obviously shows are styled with an element of creativity and entertainment in mind. Mixing pieces in a manner that may not be popular to the masses for the sake of an creating an interesting show is much different than designing pieces that stand so flamboyantly on their own that it is practically unwearable under most circumstances. The couture inspired art form is important and has its place within its own market. If ready-to- wear is supposed to be all about wearable clothing for the fashion society, shouldn't designers be creative and express themselves but with the intent to make sales and gain retail accounts? While the over-the-top creations can be exqusitedly entertaining it sometimes creeps it way into RTW shows so much that the crowd is often left thinking, "I love it, but where in the world will I be able to where it?"

Tighty Whities

White tights are in season and complementary to all colors on this Falls palette. Popping up on the runways of designers such as Zac Posen and Eley Kishimoto, white is no longer a pre-labor day cliche but rather a Fall staple. Mixed with tailored tweeds or poetic satins this new trend adds a romantic element that is nothing short of adorable.
