These days...

I'm thinking of
Escher, Dodgson, and Karin....
a good combination for the brain!

Summer Days...Fall me

Blogging for me used to be something that I ran home to do, recapping and recounting my moments, my experiences, and the adventures of my day for the world, or rather my six faithful followers to view. This past spring while sitting at a cafe in Paris, downloading my camera so that I could blog my heart out, I suddenly wanted to just stop finish my coffee and watch the people go by. I never again blogged for the rest of my stay in Paris....not because I no longer wanted to share my adventures with the world but rather because my moments were becoming lost in thoughts of the end result. Each moment was more of a story then an actual moment...I was in Paris and I wanted to live those moments and feel them as they were. Once back in New York I dragged myself to the computer just giving brief updates and highlights of the passing events. Usually I would check my email, log off, and go meet a friend for a drink. This was going to be my summer of "hanging out" and indeed it was. I picked up smoking, became a social drinker, a Friday night bar regular, and even managed to dip in and out of my fair share of what I like to call romantic mischief. Oh what a summer it was. I neglected all activities outside of my work, stopped my fleamarket, and said yes to just about every social outing that I could my hands on. By the end of the summer dare I say that I even had a bit of a posse that I rolled with, very not NiLeA P, but very enjoyable. To tie it all up...I ended the summer just as I had begun my spring... a huge soiree before I run off to Paris. This time it was the bitter sweet celebration of the end of my golden summer and the start of my golden year. What a better way to celebrate than a two week getaway in which I took all of my bad summer habits and kicked them up about three notches. Plunging myself into as much fun as possible in Paris, Holland, Stockholm, and Paris again, I was off with head and I danced danced danced until I was almost dead!...Well, in a Yeah Yeah Yeahs sorta way!

Sooooo...now those days are over. I've quit the smoking and the bar crawl has come to an end. I am looking forward to fall. A low key fall, in which Nilea P does not slip into hiberation but rather into creation...its time to get down to business. The fall me is all whined up and ready to go. It was a great summer and inspiration has arrived. New ideas, and a new regimen...who knows maybe I will even blog more. Ready, set, GO...Fall here I come..this is my golden year!

Potlach, La Ferme

This morning I will lay in my bed and watch episodes of my favorite cartoon of the moment...Potlach La Ferme...the adventures of fifteen animals all with very human like personalities (one duck is an expert in anthropology) and their daily dramatic stories on the farm. Absolutley amazing and stimulating. I will make a pot of tea and finish the gruyère in the fridge. Lazy Sunday....I♥U!

The other day while at Opening Ceremony...

DELFINA DELETTREZ - BLACK NAIL HAND RING...Oh how I can not stop thinking about you!

His, Her, My Dark Matter...Lovestory

I have been searching for the right words in this sea of madness called my thoughts. Today I checked out one of my favorite blogs herdarkmatter.com and there they were..scattered, separated, sprinkled...thoughts organized and defined.
Thanks ♥RB.

Vampire Summer 1979

In the midst of all the "summer of the vampire" craze that has everyone staying up all night to read vampire chronicles and then watch the cable series, I almost forgot how much I love this song. Thanks Bauhaus for reinstating the cool.

Rouge Evidemment...Top 3 reds in my life right now.

#1. While in Paris a quick stop at the Monoprix has turned into a love at first glide romance manifested into a manic obsessive addiction between me and a perfectly red tube of lipstick called Rouge Baiser #207. Its almost sexual how intensely stimulated I am by its perfect red color. I think that there are only a few times in a girls life when she notably discovers the ideal cosmetic and vows never to let it go. This is one of those moments!

#2. Nars Creme Blush in Turkish Red is ideal for the moments where I want to wear a understated yet glamourous look. Think more Grace Jones cool as opposed to the sweet and soft cheeks of an angelic cherub. Turkish red is a bold red just dark enough to sharpen up my look on the few days that I decide to wear a nude lip as opposed to my firey rouge that I mentioned above. With that said I NEVER wear the two together...I would not want to look like an extra from a bad 80's music video. Oh and it not greasy at all...it feels almost like a powder after it goes on which is perfect because I hate when it looks like you've mixed your makeup with vaseline.

#3. Years ago when I was just a poor intern going to fashion week on the leftover passes for the shows that my boss just could not be bothered to go to, I stumbled across this brand of nail polish in my free gift bag. Well that bag and the three others that I snagged from the seats next to mine. Creative Nail Design (CND) makes one of the best nail polish formulas ever and six years later I am still a fan. I wish that they would bring back #284 XXX (a red that makes a man wanna pee his pants when he sees you) but instead I settle for #424 Burn a red that still gets the same effect (okay maybe not the pee but that was gross anyway:)

Criminal Conversation

Last week I got a chance to check out the works of Yinka Shonibare at the Brooklyn Museum. Anyone who knows me knows that I am sucker for Victorian turn-of-the century garments and that it plays a huge role in my current work and even in my lifestyle. Yinka makes a whole statement about Dutch wax fabric and that period and what it represented then and even now. He does an interesting play on this idea and the outcome is nothing short of clever and ironic (not in the dull over-saturized sense of the word but rather in a literal straight forward "hitting nail on the head" sense.) The naughty "Gallantry and Criminal Conservation" piece is vibrant, sexual and just completely engaging. Bravo! Now that was a 10 bucks well spent!
Showing until Sept 20th.

Footsteps in the Fog

its on TCM tonight at 8pm..."Hold all my calls please Jefferey"

Strange...............

The brillance of the brillant...

is that they are usually discovered only after they are dead. Live your life now, its not your job to search recognition.

Ready, Set, Go!

So I am back in the states now...it feels weird having stayed away from the blog for so long. I am not sure why but I needed it. Just a moment of taking myself off of the radar for just long enough to catch my breath and examine my sighs. It feels funny to try to go back and recap what I have missed because as much as I like to keep everyone in the know part of me feels like I did not write for a reason. I am state of confusion caught between my dreams and realizations...the ultimate discovery for which I am thirsty! In the mean time ReadyMade Magazine stopped by just long enough to feature me in a 7 page spread in their upcoming Re-Fashion issue...out on newstands Aug 6th. I pulled my camera out of retirement to snap a few pictures on set.
Thanks to Johnny Valiant, Peter and Stephen Perfetto who if only just for two days became like family in my home....I think you guys are brillant. Nice IS the new black!

PS.....I got the cover shot too!!!!! yippppiee!

....? oui. ca va

I must admit that I have been a little lazy latley....well inspired, uninspired, and lazy all at once. France is amazing and I feel different....not better not worst but loved, appreciated, smart, dumb, werid, and beautiful all at once and sometimes all in the same day. I have no I idea what to write and what to keep just for myself. I do have photos but right now for some reason I am not in rush to post them. This place has been good to me....that I do know!

Yann Bhogal

This guy is wicked with the camera and he still develops film...old school style... you gotta wait a while for the results. Sometimes instant gratification is not always the best (sometimes :) I had the pleasure of being photographed by him the other week but like eveyone else I must wait in line for the results...
