Every piece of clothing has its story...

Retell it!

Guilty Pleasures

Something about the show Gossip Girl is wildly cheesy yet the fashion keeps me sufficiently entertained. The wardrobe although mixed with the gaudy hair and makeup of a wannabe 16 year old, is well done with school uniforms that are very sweet and stylish. Of course there are moments when certain characters or extras on the show look completely over thought much like an Forever 21 ad, but each episode finds a way to introduce at least one piece that somehow brilliantly retains the shows style credibility.

Speaking of gaudy hair and makeup Snoop Dogg's lastest video is another random gulity pleasure of mine. Tres 1970's. Trashy yet wonderfully entertaining. My eyes are pleased each time I watch it. The netting on his church hat is just the tip of the iceberg.

Love child

When Vivienne and Melissa get together they make one hell of a collaboration. If this isn't the cutest shoe ever then Mary has yet to meet Jane. The black and electric blue will be quite the story with dresses from our Holiday 2008 Premiere Collection.

A Romantic Notion

Romanticism began in the late 18th century and ended in the mid 19th century. The Romantic movement can be described as a reaction against Neoclassicim in which the style is full of emotion and beauty with many individualistic and exotic elements. Oh the the ruffles, the layers, the lace, the sleeves, the full shoulders. The most beautiful fashions have ALREADY been created!!!!! Underground Love Story Holiday 2008 is brilliantly inspired by details of this romantic era.

An old treat

Today I ran across a old project that I completed my first year in design school several years ago. The line's first collection was called “Paint the Town Red” the bio read as…

This is clothing line for the woman who at any age is full of confidence. She’s bold energized, fearless, and nothing short of stylish. This is the woman who grabs your attention as she leads a business meeting wearing pumps, leather pants, and a cropped blazer. She is an icon who demands attention weather she is performing at an sold out arena, walking down a crowded city street, or running to catch a bus. It is a collection of flirty yet sophisticated clothing, that mixes bright colorful fabrics with tailored pieces. It is intelligently energized while still maintaining a underlining sense of subtlety. To my customer fashion is not only a pleasure but a means by which she maintains her individuality, and ability to express herself. She is confident in her style and refuses to change it so instead she searches for people who appreciate her soul. She is an icon, she is Tina Tuner, Cher, Dontella Versace, she is the etcetera, but most importantly she is me, and she inspires you. You will recognize her when you see her, she’ll be the lady in red when the rest of the world is wearing black.

Wow..inspiring.

Monomania

I have busy selecting, collecting, and editing my selections for Fall 2008. I want each peice to be specifically special. The details are most important. Fabrics, colors, cut....my brain is overloaded.

Physics

Yesterday I opened my notebook and found this unfinished sentence, "the affair of a style vanguard and her obsession with....." I still have not been able to find the perfect words to complete that sentence. I know that I am obsessed with fantastically designed items that are no longer available in mass quantity. Recreating snippets of my wardrobe that are relevant to fashion at present is like offering a peak into my treasure chest. The idea is to change some things and preserve others. Some items are merely inspiration for the creation of something new, reconstruction or updated details. Others will be replicas of brillance permantley worthy of appulause. Peices for Fall/Winter 2008 have been collected dating back several years to when I began my treasure hunt. The eye has no bounderies when selecting for a permanant collection, trends are powerless and irrelevant. Knowing exactly when to wear items and the prescison of the execution is lord of it own science.

The Story

So I have been working, thinking, sketching...the reception is getting clearer but still fuzzy. Its like an old tv with an old antenna...much like the one that I have on in the background as I type this blog. I adjust it daily and each time it gets a bit clearer but I have yet to achieve the purr-fect picture. (I recently discovered a new love for cats so i try to incorporate little reminders in subtle ways.)
I think that I like "Underground Love Story" better than "The Underground Love Affair". Its seems to be the name that I have been happy with for the longest. It is a story...my story..my obsession with pre-worn treasures that I so faithfully collect and cherish. My complusive need to scour in constant quest of little peices of brillance that hide in plain sight. Its a glamourous story but not in a Paris Hilton "Hollywood" sort of way, rather a catchpenny metropolitan, style vanguard sort of way. Its difficult to describe but quite a lovely story. The love affair between my collection and the countries in which they were fabricated. Between each peice and its orginal owner, the memories, the perfume, the abondonment, and the revival. The specific and deliberate acquistion is breathtaking, the satisfaction...priceless. Sharing that feeling, are wordless stories illustrated through small collections of this artform...they are love stories from the underground.

Name Less???

Yesterday I scribbled on the first page of a brand new crispy notepad that I had bought a few weeks earlier from Target. It was purchased for this very intension...

Underground Lovers
An Underground Lover
A Underground Lover
Underground Lover
The Underground Lover
My Underground Lover
Underground Love Affair
The Underground Love Affair....I think that I like this one.

Underground Lovers was my original choice but apparently that name has already been snagged by an Australian rock band that I have never heard of. Then again I tend to live underneath a rock when it comes to certain things..this being one of them.
Underground Love Affair works though, I even think that I may know what it means...NO not completely at this point. I mean, I do know what the words mean, as does anyone with at least a 5th grade education...but how does it apply to me? to this project? what is this project exactly? These are all questions that I have no answer for yet I am enthralled to find a name for this vast empty space (that is full of questions, creativity, design, frustration, anxiety, and blank energy) which exists within me.
